Event Description

Jagath Maaanyam is a mega dance drama which represents the contribution and historic patriotism of the great Freedom Fighter Alluri Sitarama Raju. 40 Dancers will present this narrative in a dance drama with a blend of tribal, folk, Kuchipudi and modern dance styles. According to our mythology, Lord Vishnu and his dashavathara signify the evolution of man and the intellect. It taught us that the main dharma was to protect the good and destroy the evil. We'd like to believe that Kali-yuga has witnessed these avataras in the form of extraordinary human beings who have selflessly fought to eradicate evil and shield the good in our society. We have glimpsed such avataras in our freedom fighters who have led by example. Alluri Sitarama Raju was one such individual. A young Sitarama Raju renounced all the worldly pleasures and chose to lead a monk's life, devoting his life to attaining sampoorna swarajya. He began working amongst tribal communities and aided them by educating them and providing medical help, using the extensive learnings he had acquired from his travels. He strived to fight against the caste divide in Indian Society. He Introduced the panchayat system among the tribes and evoked a sense of self-governance. After putting up a monumental effort for nearly two years, the British finally managed to apprehend Alluri Sitarama Raju in the forests of Chintapalle, where he was then tied to a tree and executed by firing on 7 May 1924. The British Government had to spend over Rs 40 lakhs in those days to defeat the rebellion.

Sri Rajarajeshwari Kala Nikethan aims to throw light on the life and sacrifices of this unsung hero. Conceptualised, Choreographed and Directed by Dr. Veena Murthy Vijay, Mitun Sham will be essaying the role of Alluri Sitarama Raju and Sangeeta Phanish will play the role of Sita.
