Event Description

JAYA, an English-language rock musical adaptation of the Mahabharata, is produced and directed by renowned theatre director Lillete Dubey. The production offers a modern and visually captivating interpretation of the epic’s major events.

The show features lighting by Lynne Fernandez, known for her work with the Nrityagram Dance Ensemble, sets by Fali Unwalla, and costumes by Pallavi Patel. The lead roles are played by Sherrin Varghese, a founding member of A Band of Boys; musical theatre actress Megan Murray; and rocker 2Blue, who has performed with bands like Iron Maiden and Guns N’ Roses. The cast also includes stage and screen veteran Vikrant Chaturvedi and Asif Ali Beg from "Trial by Fire" and "Scam 1992."

Vocalists Keshia B, Sid Makkar, Varun Narayan, Ujjayinee Roy, and Danny Sura also feature in the production. The original score is composed by Ashutosh Phatak with lyrics by Sandeep Kanjilal. Choreographed Kalaripayattu sequences by Arpit Singh and Kathak by Pooja Pant add to the dynamic staging.

JAYA narrates the Mahabharata's key events through the perspective of Yudhishthira, the eldest Pandava brother, exploring themes of truth, power, and destiny. The story contrasts Yudhishthira’s ideals with Duryodhana’s pursuit of power and Karna’s belief in destiny.
