Event Description

‘Neem Das’ is the Kirtan project of Ajit Gopal Singh, who uses a unique style of percussive Guitar playing that he calls the ‘Multi-Tara’, derived from the single stringed ‘ektara’ for chants and kirtan. With his loop machine, he creates vast ambiences and multi layered mantra experiences sometimes adding drums and synthetic instruments like flutes and sarangi, all created in the moment with no backtracks and no prior composition. He sings in English, Awadhi and Sanskrit and has translated a lot of Chalisas (40 verse devotional songs) and Stotras to the English language with similar rhyme schemes. Sometimes its slow and meditative, sometimes it's funky and dancy depending on the moment!
