Have you ever looked closely at a fern leaf? Or the way a tree branch splits into smaller versions of itself? How about the intricate repeating patterns of a head of broccoli? Fractals are everywhere. They are nature’s ‘copy-paste’ trick where a simple rule repeats to create shapes that look the same from a distance or up close.
This workshop bridges the worlds of math and dance to showcase how these mathematical patterns live in space and time. Moving beyond the chalkboard to experience fractals as a living concept, you will experiment with Bharatanatyam rhythms to build beat cycles and create your own ‘body fractals’ by playing with scale and tempo. You will also get a glimpse of how these concepts play out through a few short films.
The session concludes with an introduction to the handbook Move Through Math: a resource designed for parents and educators to help children explore foundational math concepts through the body.
Please Note:
For children aged 5-12, accompanied by one adult.
Wear comfortable, flexible clothing suitable for barefoot movement on the floor.
Copies of the handbook will be available for purchase.
Around the World in 50 Sundays is a journey that begins, not with a ticket, but with opening a book. In a city like Bangalore where families are always in motion, the BIC Library hopes to offer stillness and a quiet, welcoming space for both parents and children where reading becomes a shared experience.
Every Sunday, we open our doors to invite you into a library that listens; building a rhythm of return, a habit of joy and a new community bound not just by books, but by the weekly ritual of reading together.
We welcome your ideas and input. If you have suggestions for children’s events or activities that align with this vision, we’d love to hear from you. Please reach out to us at library@bangaloreinternationalcentre.org

Her work aims to create experiences where ideas can be felt, moved, and lived. Having conducted successful international pilot workshops, she has now launched the Move Through Math book to bring these embodied learning experiences to a wider audience.
