Event Description

Where and how did women’s activism of the mid seventies and eighties start in India? How did women start to raise questions about the discrimination they faced, and how did those questions expand into multiple campaigns and organizations, creating legacies of change and transformation?

This talk by Urvashi Butalia will address these questions through the personal stories of activists in the movement. A Q&A with the audience will follow.

This event is part of Unheard Narratives, BIC’s programmes to commemorate Women’s Day 2025. It celebrates the power of unheard narratives—spotlighting the resilience, artistry, and impact of women whose stories have shaped India’s cultural and social fabric. Through performances, talks, and films, we bring these voices to the forefront.
