Event Description

Join us for a deaf-led walkthrough of our latest exhibition, Reimagining the Muraqqa, with Akanksha Kamble from the Inclusions team, as she illuminates the artworks on display through Indian Sign Language (ISL).

The exhibition brings together traditional paintings from the personal collection of writer, photographer, and artist Waswo X. Waswo, generously gifted to MAP. Many of these paintings were inexpensive works sold as “antiquities” or what he came to call heritage paintings and, over time, these seemingly modest objects have revealed a complex visual record of a changing India.

Drawing on the muraqqa – a pre-modern album in which paintings, photographs, and other fragments are assembled into a larger whole, the exhibition considers how narratives, memories, and associations can emerge through juxtaposition, annotation, and the act of looking.
