Event Description

The SWI is a regular publication of Azim Premji University that aims to provide the public with an evidence-based overview of the quality and quantity of employment in the Indian economy. Previous editions have focused on a comprehensive overview of India’s labour market (SWI 2018), a set of policy briefs addressing the jobs challenge (SWI 2019) and most recently, an assessment of the impact of the pandemic (SWI 2021).

This year’s theme is ‘Social Identities and Labour Market Outcomes’. The report uses official data sources as well as primary data from a study conducted by Azim Premji University in collaboration with IWWAGE and IIM Bangalore. It discusses the progress made in removing caste, gender and religion-based disparities in employment and the challenges that remain.

The report presentation by Amit Basole will be followed by a panel discussion on ‘Social Identities and Labour Market Outcomes.’ A Q&A with the audience will follow.

Tea will be served at 5:30pm.
