Radhika Oberoi's novel, Of Mothers and Other Perishables, opens a new and intimate vocabulary of grief. It is also set amidst the tumult of political protests in the city of Delhi. This session will explore the impact of prolonged grief on familial relationships. It will also delve into contemporary politics, particularly the protests, against the Citizenship Amendment Act, which took place on a narrow stretch of road in Delhi and were led primarily by Muslim women. She will be in conversation with Bhumika Anand, Founder and Director, Bangalore Writer’s Workshop.
Radhika Oberoi is the author of two novels, Stillborn Season (2018) and Of Mothers and Other Perishables (2024) which was longlisted for the JCB Prize for Literature last year. It was also shortlisted for the AutHer Awards 2025. She has written book reviews and essays for a variety of publications in India and abroad, including World Literature Today, Mekong Review, Business Standard, The Indian Express, scroll.in, and Outlook magazine. She has a postgraduate degree in Creative Writing, Prose Fiction, from the University of East Anglia in the United Kingdom.
