"Cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education" - Mark Twain
A book launch with a difference was the highlight of 11th June - where we met Radha Thomas, Executive VP & Editor at Explocity.com the author of "The Cauliflower Diet" at Atta Galatta, Kormangala. Usha Radhakrishnan, former Editorial Director at Explocity (and my Significant Other) was thrilled to meet Radha Thomas and ex-boss Ramjee Chandran for reasons more than one.
This book launch had the finished products "Cauliflower Thaiyr Sadam - Cauliflower Curd Rice" and "Cauliflower cookies" prepared by Radha Thomas - available to taste and they were crunchilicious and yummy.
Usha was lucky to have tasted Cauliflower Thaiyr Sadam many a time, during her days with Explocity - but little did she know that now the secret recipe was available in a cookery book - that too penned by close friend, Radha.
For a diabetic, “marginally” overweight vegetarian like me, who thrives on South Indian food - this was a heaven sent book-launch. Rice substituted by cauliflower is the mantra. Can you believe it - 500 grams of cauliflower contains 14 grams of net carbs while 500 grams of rice has 140 grams of net carbs.
The mouth watering recipes in the book include - Bisi Bele Bath, Mango Chitranna, Thenga (Coconut) Sadam, Lemon Rice, Pasi Parupu Adai, Cauliflower Upma and many more.
The international vegetarian will not go disappointed because the recipes include Cauliflower Spinach Risotto, Curried Cauliflower Bake and for the non-vegetarians the spread is as exquisite - Cauliflower Stuffing for Chicken or Turkey, Shrimp Fried Rice - just to name a few.
For the weight-conscious, for the taste-conscious and for the cauliflower-conscious, the book published by Penguin Random House India is available on Amazon.
What am I waiting for... Usha to vacate the kitchen for me to launch into preparing a full-cauliflower-meal over the weekend. Cauliflower being one of my most favourite vegetables. Thank you Radha Thomas for writing this phenomenal book.
"There is no sincerer love than the love of food." - George Bernard Shaw
