Why do we celebrate St. Patrick's Day?

St. Patrick's Day is where the Irish celebrate their heritage. St. Patrick's Day celebrations was brought to America in 1737 by Irish soldiers fighting with the Brits. To help with homesickness, they marched in a parade to connect with other Irish soldiers. Today, Dublin has a huge St. Patrick’s Day parade.

Why colour green?

Green is Irish heritage. The Irish flag includes a green stripe; shamrocks - a national symbol of Ireland - are green; and a great portion of the country of Ireland is blanketed with beautiful green foliage.

Tell us about shamrocks (three-leaf clovers)

St. Patrick used the shamrock as a visual aid to explain Christianity to pagans because their three leaves represent the trinity. On St. Patrick’s Day, people wear a small bunch of shamrocks on their jackets or caps.

What about the four-leaf clover?

For every 10,000 three-leaf clovers, there is only one four-leaf clover. That makes the four-leaf clover hard to find. So you're lucky to find one.The first leaf is for hope, the second for faith, the third for love and the fourth for luck.

Why is a leprechaun a part of St. Patty’s Day?

Because we leprechauns, like fairies, are from Irish mythology. We have jobs as cobblers and are mischievous. We are very rich, and we hide our gold.
