Join Rahil and Alankrita of Hallubol for a conversation moderated by Arpita Gaidhane on identity, culture and self-expression through comics. Exploring their works, the artists will discuss how language, cultural roots and social expectations shape the stories we tell and the identities we inhabit. From bringing Dakhni into popular comics to questioning masculinity and patriarchy, the conversation will explore how comics create space for underrepresented voices, challenge dominant narratives and offer new ways of understanding who we are and how we belong
Alankrita Amaya and Rahil Mohsin
Speakers
Hallubol or “speak softly” is founded by comic book artist Rahil Mohsin and children’s book writer and illustrator, Alankrita Amaya. Home to the world’s first Dakhni – English bilingual comics, Hallubol celebrates the everyday lives of Dakhni-speaking South Indian communities. Through satire, observational humour and lived experience, their comicbook series and one shots preserve the language, history and culture from Dakhni perspectives often overlooked in mainstream media.Rahil Mohsin has published works across Scout Comics, Sufi Comics, Action Lab Studio, Scholastic and others, along with four self-published titles. Alankrita Amaya’s portfolio includes books written and illustrated for Tulika, Pratham, Hachette Learning, Room to Read to name a few.
