Event Description

Dance is an ancient tool for expression, community, and storytelling.

This event invites you into the cultural legacy of India’s folk traditions. The evening flows between talk and demonstration, guided by researchers who have spent years documenting and preserving these practices in the field.

You will encounter forms rarely seen outside the communities that carry them through archival photographs and original research documentation. Trained dancers perform live demonstrations of Karnataka traditions such as Jogathi Nrutya, Pattada Kunitha, Kamsale, and Soligara Kunitha. Bear witness to the ritual, spiritual purpose, and centuries of communal wisdom held within each form.

You are also invited to participate, with guided movement sessions offering a chance to learn the steps and the meaning behind them. The session has space for sharing and questions at the end. This is for anyone interested in movement and dance, regardless of prior experience.

Step into the living history of our people, our land, and our culture.

This event is a part of our programming to celebrate World Dance Day 2026, ‘The Many Lives of Dance’.
