YouthPOWER
India’s district-level youth opportunity map
Join us for the launch of the Karnataka State Handbook of YouthPOWER, an initiative that measures youth opportunity across India’s approximately 800 districts.
India is home to the world’s largest youth population. Nearly 65% of Indians are below the age of 35, and around 85% live in their own district. The future of India’s young people—and of India itself—will therefore be shaped at the district level. Bringing together nearly 180 indicators from 27 government databases, the platform creates comparable district-level scores across five pillars: Opportunity, Work, Education, Readiness & Skilling, and Participation & Agency.
Together, these indicators capture the conditions that shape a young person’s life—from health and nutrition to education and skilling, employment and enterprise, infrastructure and connectivity, and the social conditions that enable participation in civic life. Conceived as both a diagnostic and action-oriented tool, YouthPOWER seeks to identify strengths, expose gaps, set priorities, and track whether outcomes improve over time.
The Karnataka State Handbook presents YouthPOWER scorecards for each of the state’s 31 districts alongside a broader picture of youth opportunity across Karnataka. The project asks how districts can build on their own economic base, institutions, and comparative advantages while connecting young people to knowledge, capital, markets, and meaningful work.
The evening will feature a presentation of the handbook followed by a conversation on youth opportunity, governance, and district-level development in Karnataka and beyond.
