IISC named top engineering institute in India

Bangalore's Indian Institute of Science (IISc) has been named the top engineering institute in India for faculty research competence.

A report titled 'Top Research Faculty in Tier-1 Engineering Institutions in India' issued by Zinnov identifies institutes by major areas of research. As per the study, IISc, followed by eight IITs (Kanpur, Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Kharagpur, Roorkey, BHU and Guwahati) and BITS Pilani were named the top institutes on the basis of faculty research competence. This means that the faculty in these institutes have the highest number of industry and government research grants, international and national journal references, conference publications and patents to their credit.

This also means these top institutes have a larger proportion of senior faculty members (all PhDs) with greater overall experience (average of 20 years).

On the departmental front, IISc ranks tops in electrical and electronics engineering and aerospace, whereas IIT Delhi excels in computer science engineering department. IIT Kanpur scores in mechanical engineering stream.
