Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) will be called Kempegowda International Airport starting December 14. The new name will be introduced along with the opening of the new Terminal 1A.
The name change initiation and T1A will be inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Civil Aviation Minister Ajith Singh. The expanded terminal - spanning over 1.50 lakh square metres would be more than double the existing floor area and was designed to accommodate burgeoning traffic, BIAL said in a release.
"The new name honours Kempegowda, founding father of Bangalore and the renaming is being timed with the opening of the T1A where the facilities, radiant interiors and exteriors mirrors the rich culture of Karnataka and the vibrant colors of the Garden City," BIAL Managing Director G. V. Sanjay Reddy said.
"With T1A we want our passengers to experience everything that's unique about Bangalore of yesteryears when he/she enters the airport and at the same time enjoy the benefits of world-class facilities," he added.
