The Karnataka High Court warned the BMRCL that if the authorities continue to disrespect labour laws, it would be forced to order a pause on all Metro work. A Chief Justice DH Waghela headed division bench gave the BMRCL time till Monday to submit a report with regard to compliance to rules.

On July 3, the court said that violation of labour laws is the same as violation of human rights and had instructed all parties involved to submit a list of contractors/ sub-contractors in the project and actual number of workers with their details by July 24.

Earlier, BMRCL counsel had requested time till Monday to submit the required details. The counsel said the BMRCL had met all contractors on July 15 and will be meeting them again next week. An inspection will be conducted for physical verification of the contractors' claims.

The issue came to light after a number of social activists raised concerns over the conditions the Namma Metro workers are living and working in.
