In Search Of The Bangalore Ugadi Menu

To throw some light, the agrarian festival of Ugadi (or Yugadi or Gudipadwa) is celebrated as the first day of the New Year in Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra and Telangana. By one interpretation, in these parts, this is the first day of the month of the year. In other parts of the country, the Hindu New Year month starts on other dates. Ours is not to question why. Ours is to eat hollige.

Either you live in Bangalore and know all about Ugadi or you live under a rock.

And buy new clothes. Even if we stopped being agrarian around the time Gutenberg assembled type.

The point is that there’s celebration and with that, there’s feasts.

There’s a lot of information online about Ugadi food and what it is, so we will keep ourselves to letting you know where you can go to get this food, if a home cooked meal is not at hand.

Lush, Renaissance

Curated by Executive Chef Ming and his team, the menu features Ugadi classics such as Obbattu, Mysore Bonda, Nimbehannu Chitranna, Beans Papua, Kosambari, and Shavige Payasa. To complement the meal, Bar Manager Shyam and his team will serve beverages inspired by traditional ingredients, ranging from tender coconut refreshers to spice-infused cocktails.

Justbe

Justbe by Nidhi Nahata is marking Ugadi with a plant-based vegetarian feast that highlights the festival’s traditional flavors. Ugadi, which signifies the beginning of a new year, is associated with six distinct tastes—sweet, sour, salty, bitter, pungent, and spicy—each symbolising different emotions in life.

This year, Justbe is offering a festive buffet centered around Ugadi Pachadi variations, bringing these elements together in a plant-based spread.

The Hebbal Cafe

The festive spread, curated by Executive Chef Rajeev and his team, highlights traditional Telugu and Kannada New Year delicacies.

The menu features Ugadi Pachadi alongside festive favorites like Pulihora, Mamidikaya Pulusu, Bobbatlu, Pesarapappu Payasam, Ariselu, and crispy Vada. Guests can also enjoy Pungulu, Garelu, and the refreshing Panakam.

Hilton Garden Inn

Hilton Garden Inn Bengaluru Embassy Manyata Business Park is marking Ugadi with a traditional Ugadi Thali on March 30, 2025. The feast brings together time-honoured flavours, served on silver or gold platters with fresh banana leaves like Obbattu and Ugadi Pachadi—a six-flavored chutney symbolising life’s varied experiences.
