On Monday, June 10, the state cabinet came to the aid of thousands of women in the state by deciding to penalise those found guilty of sexually harassing women in workplaces.
The cabinet meeting approved to incorporate "sexual harassment of women" in work places by amending Karnataka Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1957. Law minister TB Jayachandra said that, so far, this was not in the rules and the government acted on the same following Supreme Court's direction related to a judgment in the case of Vishaka vs State of Rajasthan. "The punishment clause will be defined in the draft bill, which will be issued soon," he said.
