Whoopie Pie

These little delights originate from Pennsylvania, and are basically cake-and-cream sandwiches. The Amish lifestyle has a no waste attitude and these treats were created to make use of extra cake batter. When children and farmers opened their lunchboxes to find these special desserts, legend says they would shout, "Whoopie!" Chocolate cakes with vanilla cream are the classic, but seasonal pumpkin versions are also available.
