Ugadi is derived from the Sanskrit words yuga (age) and âdi (beginning) - the beginning of a new age. In Karnataka the traditional dish for the festival is Obbattu or Holige, sweet flatbreads stuffed with jaggery, lentils and most importantly ghee.

The Master Chef George Jayasurya and his culinary team at Dakshin have this and many other classics for the occasion. Start off with some cooling Majige--Butter milk tempered with mustard, curry leaves and red chillies. Dont miss the assorted Vadas. Do try the traditional black chickpeas preparation of Ugadi called Kadle Gojju and of course the Obbattu.

For mains try the Kootu Saaru – curry of mix vegetables cooked in gravy of coconut, lentils and tempered with garlic and also Hook Osu Khara Palya – a spicy and tangy cauliflower reparation.
