Must Try Restaurants in Bangalore

I’ve sort of grown up in the kitchen alongside my mum and grandmothers. With the love for food firmly instilled in my genes, it’s the first thing I look for when I visit a city. My love for Bangalore and the food it has to offer has grown more so because my roots are from the North, where South Indian cuisine is limited to dosas and idlis. Imagine what an eye opener it was when I realised how unique each state is and its food was.

Kanua

I’ve been going to Kanua since it was located in a nondescript lane near Sarjapur Road. The surroundings may have changed but the food hasn’t. Lovely decor with a typical Mangalorean tile roof; it's open on all four sides and is beautifully lit during evenings. I love the wooden seating, the relaxed atmosphere and can while away an entire afternoon there.

Look out for- Chicken Ghee Roast, Fish Fry Masala, Kori Rotti and the Passionfruit Soda

Shivaji Military Hotel

Military Hotels have a history to share and anybody who’s lived in Bangalore long enough has probably visited one. They are scattered across Bangalore, but my favourite is the Shivaji Military Hotel at Jayanagar. Don’t expect service or even a smile from the waiters as you enter, but be prepared to leave stuffed to the brim. It is said that in spite of the sheer volumes, the recipes are closely guarded and only shared within the family.

Look out for- Donne Biryani, Chili Chicken, Mutton Dry and the Chicken Fry

Fatty Bao

Big flavours mark Fatty Bao’s menu. When it opened, it was difficult to get a table at this much sought after restaurant in Indira Nagar. After visiting multiple times and never being disappointed, I’ve understood the hype. Quirky decor, colourful tableware, an eclectic clientele and an innovative menu make this a must visit for anyone who enjoys Asian cuisine.

Look out for- Char Siu Bao, Fatty Oysters, Exotic Mushroom Ramen and the Braised Beef Jungle Curry
