Bangalore’s Independence Food

This week, India celebrates 66 years of independence. For most of us, this translates to catching up with a few extra hours of sleep. After all, nothing can get in the way of a mid-week holiday. In fact, we can take it up a notch and indulge in some delicious food on a, presumably, lazy Thursday afternoon.

Celebrate this Independence Day with a diverse selection of cuisines to choose from, around the city. This week, a number of restaurants in Bangalore are offering its diners varied dishes that covers an array of selected Indian culinary spectrums. Here are a few.

Mynt
Mynt at Taj West End is offering a special brunch crafted by Chef Sandip Narang. The menu will feature fresh salads, soups, pizzas, cheeses with an array of desserts and a mocktail. You can also opt for Independence Day demi-brunch and enrich your dining experience by pairing the scrumptious food with unlimited flow of Indian sparkling wine or beer.

Prices: Rs 1250 plus taxes (mocktail)
Rs 1600 plus taxes (wine/beer)

Le Jardin
Le Jardin, the all day dining multi- cuisine restaurant at The Oberoi will be hosting an Independence Day lunch featuring popular Indian cuisine favourites, alongside a few Western specials. The lunch is available on three options.

Prices: Rs 3500 with unlimited champagne.
Rs 2500 with unlimited sparkling wine.
Rs 2250 for non-alcoholic brunch.

Blimey
Blimey has a special Independence Day lunch with unlimited food, one cocktail or mocktail or a glass of beer. The menu offers a lot to choose from, be it appetisers, main course or desserts.

Starters include beef kebab in pita, Monterey Jack cheese murgh tikka, shammi kebab slider, English reef cod and chips. Vegetarian starters vary from jalapeños and cheese pakora to smokey cottage kebabs, spicy French fries chaat to chana masla mini pie chaat.

The menu offers a range of dishes for the main course. Patrons can try the tiranga murgh -trio of saagwala, makhanwala and lasoni murgh, English halibut curry, fish cutlets and chips, Manchester rusholme style pork vindaloo and Nawabi shepherd’s pie.

Complete the fusion dining experience with a selection of desserts like gulab jamun with English butter scotch sauce, shahi bread butter pudding with mixed berry rabadi and rasmalai cheese gateaux.
Price: Rs 450 (inclusive of taxes).

Prestige Golfshire Club
The Golfshire Club invites its guests to experience a round of golf at Rs 2000 including cart fees, caddie fee and green fee. Patrons can then indulge in an Independence Day Brunch. The afternoon will feature a number of interactive live stations serving out a variety of Indian dishes.

1947
Ushering in an India that is more diverse and varied than most countries of the world, this Independence Day, 1947, the restaurant popular for its quintessential Indian cuisine, introduces the Great Indian Thali. The thali is a traditional meal promising to capture the flavours of our country and presenting them on a single plate.

It is an unlimited meal that includes a chilled beverage, chaat, dal bati churma, nargis kofta, the kathi Punjabi kadhi, bisi bele Bhaat, panchmel dal, with tangy chutneys and salads as the accompaniments and finishes with desserts such as gajar ka halwa, kheer, rasgulla and more.

Price: Rs 99 between 12.00pm to 3.00pm from Monday to Friday.
