Meet Chef Myo Zaw Aung, Executive Chef

Where did you grow up?

I have been born and raised in the vibrant and beautiful Myanmar.
What led you to becoming a chef?
My mother has been my first mentor and teacher. There is nothing that can replace the taste of her food in my memory. When we had our large family get togethers at home she would cook for everyone and I would help her out in the kitchen. This experience is what first attracted to the culinary arts and my passion then grew exponentially.

What do you enjoy more? Cooking or creating?
I enjoy both cooking and creating equally; both have elements of fun of their own. The heat and energy in the kitchen from the time my team receives the order to the time the food is plated and served to the guest is really an exhilarating experience for me.
Creating is something I enjoy doing as well. Understanding the trending demands of food and enhancing my menu and offerings with new, exciting and out of the box dishes is something that I am always keen on doing.
Do you bring ethnic influences to your cooking?
I always try and incorporate a little touch my specialty when required to further enhance the flavors and take the dish to another level. I do this through my experiences in Pan Asian, Japanese, and Oriental Fusion cuisines.
What dish do you like eating the most?
Being a Chef I really enjoy food in all forms and love every cuisine from around the world that I have tried. But a home cooked Burmese meal is something I would relish any time.
What’s your least favourite dish?
I prefer not to opt for dishes that are too over the top, overly rich and have bad health implications to the body in the long or short run. That said I appreciate food a lot and have no least favorite dish.
How long have you lived in Bangalore?
I’ve been living in Bangalore for around 8 months now.
Do you like it here?
The city is beautiful, the weather is amazing and the people here are very friendly and helpful and my overall experience has been a blissful one in the time I have spent here.
What’s your favourite Bangalore restaurant (other than yours, of course)
I like the street food here in Bangalore it’s filled with a lot of flavours, spices and variety to choose from, there isn’t any specific restaurant in the city I yet prefer.
