Ropa vieja is the national dish of Cuba. The word ropa vieja literally means "old clothes" in  Spanish. The dish consists of stewed beef with vegetables. It originates from a Sephardi dish from the Middle Ages and is very popular in central and southern Spain. The Spanish version however is quite different.
